Every city has plenty for its visitors to see and do, but what adults find entertaining and worth seeing is not always the same as what the kids would like to do.

San Diego doesn’t present you with this problem. There are lots of venues and attractions that are equally as entertaining for all age groups. You just need to know where to go.

For starters there is the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre which provides great entertainment in Balboa Park. Even though the shows are largely aimed at young children, adults cannot fail to enjoy them too. You can see retellings of some of Aesop’s Fables for example, as well as many other popular stories.

Another popular spot for the whole family to head for is the San Diego Zoo. Not only do you have the zoo to wander around, there is also a wild animal park on the premises. This means you get a truly wild experience all in the one day.

You can be entertained by the monkeys in the Lost Forest or see the giraffes in the Urban Jungle. But wherever you go you will be treated to the sight of lots of different animals – some of which your kids may never have seen before. Or you, for that matter!

SeaWorld is another attraction the kids will be hard put to find dull. There are lots of shows to see, not to mention a play area that is based on many of the most popular characters from the much loved television show Sesame Street. Don’t miss the Forbidden Reef though – with a name like this every kid is going to want to see it.

You may not think that museums are the best places to entertain the children however San Diego has a unique one called the New Children’s Museum. And as the name might suggest it is focused entirely on making sure the kids have some fun.

Instead of constantly telling them not to touch the exhibits you can positively encourage it here. All the exhibitions encourage interactivity and this is the whole point – the thinking behind the museum is that children should be able to touch and feel things in order to learn more about them. So don’t worry if they start moving things around – they are allowed to!

The studios at the museum also allow kids to create some artworks of their own, using all kinds of different materials. This is one museum they will definitely want to keep coming back to again and again.

As for staying in the city, hotels in San Diego are many and varied. Whatever budget you have you will find somewhere ideal for the whole family to stay. And from there you can explore all the child friendly venues in the whole city.

There can’t be many people who truly enjoy every day of the winter months at home. With cold mornings and dark evenings, it can seem as if summer is a whole lifetime away.

But there are plenty of other countries that offer better weather at this time of the year – and one of the best has to be Cyprus. With Turkey immediately to the north and Syria to the east, it nestles in the Mediterranean and offers the chance of a fantastic holiday at any time of the year.

So what can you expect from this beautiful island?

For starters there are lots of beaches you can stretch out on. While people back at home are wrapped up against the elements, you can enjoy the likes of Phinikoudes Beach. This is renowned for being one of best beaches on the island, and it is set up to appeal to the many tourists who flock to it each year.

But this isn’t the only beach you can enjoy during your stay in Cyprus. Together with Kapparis Beach and Pachyammos Beach – not to mention several more dotted around the island – you have plenty of sandy stretches to lie on during your holiday away from colder climes.

But if you thought Cyprus was made of beaches and very little else, you would be wrong. There is plenty more to do here if you are in the mood, and this is one of the reasons why so many people love visiting Cyprus. It offers you a wide range of things to see and do. It is ideal for beach lovers, but it is also perfect for those who look for more in a holiday.

Let’s not forget that Aphrodite was born here, and the remains of Greek settlements are not inconspicuous around the island. If this side of history fascinates you, be sure you see the Temple of Apollo, which is located near Limassol. This is just one of the many sights that Cyprus can treat you to if you decide to indulge in a little winter sun on the island.

It is this wonderful and heady mix of modern and ancient Cyprus that makes the island so attractive to visit. The weather is good all year round and there are lots of places you can stay in while you are on the island. For example, a luxury hotel in Cyprus could be the ideal way to banish those winter blues and get you into an altogether better and happier frame of mind.

You may want to book a two week break instead of just seven days though, because there is so much to enjoy here that a week’s stay just isn’t enough.

Lots of world cities benefit from a river which runs through them at some point, but Chicago in the US can go one better than that.

It has a lake as well – Lake Michigan to be exact – and that makes a city break in Chicago one to really look forward to.

For starters you can hop on a boat tour that will show you what the city looks like from Lake Michigan itself. Some boat tours also navigate a route down the Chicago River, giving you another view onf the city. This is a great experience for the whole family to try.

Back on dry land you can test your nerve when it comes to heights by heading up the Sears Tower. This isn’t actually called the Sears Tower any more; it’s formally named the Willis Tower now, although most people still call it the Sears Tower.

In any event it still has a sky deck a whopping one hundred and three floors above the ground, and if you get lucky with the weather you can get the best view of the city you will ever see. It is a curious experience to actually be looking down on the majority of the city’s other skyscrapers!

If you’d rather get your feet back on terra firma and the kids want to do something a bit different, don’t miss Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze. If you have ever been in a mirror maze at a funfair you will know the kind of thing to expect – but this is on a whole different level entirely.

It also contains a lot more than just mirrors. You’ll need to prepare for all your senses to be challenged to the utmost as you navigate the various challenges to successfully exit the experience. It is well worth a try but be sure to stick together as you try and find the way out!

After all that fun and excitement a relaxing time is probably what you’ll need. And there is no better place to do it than in the Millennium Park. As the name would suggest the park was created as a millennium project, to transform one of the ugliest areas in the whole city. It worked – and now thousands of people enjoy the park space, walkways and other attractions which are housed in the park itself. Pick a sunny day and take a picnic – the park is there to be enjoyed for free.

You won’t be far from the action in this city, regardless of which of the Chicago hotels you opt to stay in. There is more than enough to see and do to last several holidays in a row. And you’ll always go home wondering when you will get to come back again.
