A Cafayate wine tour is a great way to taste Salta’s famous wine. This full day tour takes you beyond the Lerma Valley, past beautiful sights, to several gorgeous wineries. You will stop in Alemania, surrounded by the Quebrada de las Conchas, a peculiar gorge full of interesting rock formations, where you’ll see castles, and ruins of this ghost town. In Cafayate, you will visit two wineries and get to taste some wonderful Salta wine. Afterwards, you will return to your Salta hotel.

Another terrific way to tour Salta is to take the one or two day Calchaqui valley tour. On the one day tour, you start in Salta and follow the Cuesta del Obispo road all the way to 9000 feet. This high elevation gain will show you the varied landscapes in the Salta region, and you will have the opportunity to stop at several of the highlights. The Laureles and Escoipe gorges are not to be missed, as you can see terrific vistas from these green gorges. You will also stop in the Enchanted Valley, located in the fossil-rich Los Cardones National Park. Excavations have yielded several fossils and even dinosaur tracks here, and archeological research is still under way. You will end your visit with a trip to Cachi, before heading back to Salta. If you would prefer, you can spend the night in Cafayate, and extend the tour to include Seclantas, Molinos, Angastaco, and San Carlos.

A third excellent option for touring the Salta region is a one or two day Humahuaca tour. This tour takes you from Salta to the Humahuaca Gorge, and along the way you will stop and see the towns of Tumbaya, Purmamarca, Maimara and Tilcara. You will want to spend extra time in Purmamarca, as this is the town next to Cerro de los Colores, or Seven Color Mountain. In Tilcara, there is much to see and do, including the Pucara de Tilcara fortress and the Tilcara Archeological Museum. In Uquia, there is a colonial church, La Iglesia de Uquia, built in the 16th century. The Humahuaca valley itself, is a beautiful collection of colorful ravines and desert plateau. Returning to Salta, you will stop to see San Salvador de Jujuy. If you prefer, you can combine this tour with a Tour to the Clouds, either the train ride or drive, and spend the night in Purmamarca or Tilcara.
