Disney World 2010 Promotion Offers Volunteers a Free Day

Disney World Volunteer Photo

Today Disney announced a new program that celebrates the spirit of volunteer service with a simple proposition: “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.”

Disney World hopes to inspire families to volunteer in their communities during 2010 through this first-of-its-kind program. One million people who perform volunteer service for a participating organization will receive a free one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park.

While the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” program kicks off Jan. 1, 2010, you can learn more about the program and how to get your free one-day admission to a Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme park by visiting www.DisneyParks.com or www.DisneyParks.ca (Canada).

This year, guests were given one free allowed into Disney World for free on their birthday as part of the “What Will You Celebrate?” campaign.

“In 2010, we want to recognize and add one more reason for celebration: the contributions people make to their communities every day,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “We want to inspire one million volunteers – people who will invest time and energy to make their own communities and neighborhoods a better place.”

To enable people to sign up for an eligible volunteer project, Disney is working with HandsOn Network, the nation’s largest volunteer network. Part of Points of Light Institute, HandsOn Network has 250 on-the-ground volunteer action centers across the country and connects volunteers to more than 70,000 nonprofit agencies that need their help.

Starting Jan. 1, 2010, guests can go visit the Disney Parks Web site to search for volunteer opportunities available in their area through HandsOn Network and sign up for a day of volunteer service. Many of the opportunities will be for projects that entire families can participate in together.

If annual passholders would like to participate, they’ll be offered one of three choices instead of the free ticket:
• Special Fastpass cards for certain attractions for up to six people.
• A collectible Ear Hat figurine with exclusive trading pins.
• Donate the free ticket to a non-profit organization designated by Disney.

The free tickets will not be valid at Walt Disney World between March 29 and April 8 or on July 4, 2010.

Ticket quantities are limited. The program begins January 1, 2010 and continues until all tickets are distributed or Dec. 15, 2010, whichever occurs first.

If Bangkok seems endlessly lively and busy during the day, it is of little surprise that life in the vibrant capitol city of Thailand continues at the same express pace, long into the night. Sukhumvit Road, stretching across central Bangkok blazing a trail of urbane sophistication, is the cornerstone of Bangkok’s pulsating nightlife.

Offering an extraordinarily comprehensive experience, Bangkok has a hotspot for everyone. The National Museum displays a magnificent array of artifacts that chronicle Thailand’s rich history. The pilgrim will find spiritual healing at the feet of the Wat Traimitr the Golden Buddha, while the shopper will have reached her Garden of Eden when entering Pratunam. However, after a day of traditional tourist attractions, travellers will find themselves lured by the lights of Sukhumvit Road, drawing them to an unforgettable nocturnal experience. Full of glamorous bars, fashionable eateries, luxury hotels, sprawling malls and trendy clubs, Sukhumvit is a one-stop deal for a visitor looking to unwind or party on into the night.

The rambling Sukhumvit Road and its many by-roads (Sois) are home to some of Bangkok’s most exclusive restaurants as well as famed street stands, guaranteed to whet your taste buds. The sheer number of choices in cuisine is overwhelming, from the elegant’ Pan Pan’ down Soi 33 serving delectable Italian fare to the ‘Baan Kanitha’ with its menu of ethnic Thai dishes. Serving up an arsenal of food and alcohol, along with a side dish of live music, the popular bars and pubs down Sukhumvit are ideal for a warm-up before a long night ahead. ‘Song Saleung Bar’ stands out among the rest for its throngs of beautiful young people and uncontrollably groovy live music. The ‘Zest Piano Bar’ has a distinctive contemporary flair and its plush interior is the ideal alcove of sophistication in the midst of the chaos. The ‘Nana Plaza’ is for visitors with a taste for the eye-popping, but follow the pounding beat down to Soi 11 to clubs like Bed Supperclub and Q Bar where the architectural artistry only rivals the top international DJ’ing talent.

Even alongside the fun bedlam, Sukhumvit sports pockets of tranquility where visitors are able to retreat to the comfortable ambience of charming little cafes, romantic restaurants and lush spas. Best of all, conquering the daunting length of Sukhumvit Road is an easy enough task with the convenient Skytrain (BTS) stretching along almost the entire expanse.

The lively Sukhumvit area is a veritable paradise of some of the best in Bangkok hotel accommodation. Visitors enjoying the glamour of this cosmopolitan region, can opt to sink into the contemporary hotel apartment Bangkok, and of these, the Bangkok President Solitaire is ideally situated at the heart of all that Sukhumvit has to offer.

Zacatecas Mexico-The Hidden Gem

After arriving at the Zacatecas airport we took about a 45 min. bus ride to the city of Zacatecas. I had never been there or heard of this city before, but was told I would like it a lot, and I did. In fact, it was my favorite trip this year. The city is fairly small, with a population around 1.5 million, but you can see most the attractions in a day. One of the things I liked the most were the narrow winding streets and alleys of cobblestone. It’s a look I really like a lot. The energy there is very peaceful and laid   back, much like many of the smaller cities in Mexico and something you find more as you get closer to coastal cities.

Our concert was on the 1st night there, and after the show we had one day free to wonder about the city. This was such a treat for me because many times I visit a new place, I fly in for the concert, then leave the next day, with very little time for sight-seeing.

We started our day off taking the cable car or Teleferico to the top of the mountain overlooking the city. The city is known for its silver and copper mining, and the area surrounding the city is pretty desolate. After that we walked down the mountain on a road which led us directly to the city center. There we spent the day wondering through the streets and alley ways, visiting art galleries, and hanging in the centro park.

The churches and architecture are really something to see here, as it is in much of Mexico. But here they were exceptionally beautiful. The city has policies about keeping everything historical looking. So, although you will find a Starbucks, on the outside you will not find the typical commercialized logos. Another point that I like very much.

We continued our journey on foot, because everything here is very close, until we ended up at the Quinta Real. Although I did not stay at this hotel, it is the premier hotel in the city. The hotel is a converted bull fighting ring, completely remodeled into a gorgeous hotel, and I mean gorgeous. As we walked through the hotel there was lots of beautiful art and details that really make it a worthwhile visit or stay while there.

Zacatecas is at the top of my list for trips this year. I really had a great time and if you are in Mexico, spend a couple days there, it will be worth it.
